The Giving Tree is a charitable initiative started by Hasbro in Georges Court in 1986 which has become a wonderful example of local businesses and the community working together to help others at this time of year.

Mayor Cummins was delighted to launch this year’s Giving Tree as ‘a symbol of the wonderful community spirit that is found in Waterford City combining local businesses, families and the community working together to help those in need’. He paid tribute to the efforts of Cartmundi and Georges Court in maintaining ‘this unique Waterford Christmas tradition which embodies the true meaning of Christmas’.

Families, Local Schools and Children are asked to get involved by making Christmas Tree Decorations and to bring them in and hang them on the Giving Tree in the centre of Georges Court Shopping Centre. Each decoration will be matched by a game from Cartamundi to go to the Vincent De Paul for their Hampers for children who are in need this Christmas.

The Cartamundi Giving Tree at Georges Court will be in place from Monday 12h December through the Christmas season until Friday 23rd December. Staff from Cartamundi will be on hand each day from 10 – 4 and a free gift wrapping service will be in operation with donations going to a local charity.

The Cartamundi Giving Tree at Georges Court is a real example of Waterford people and businesses coming together to make 2015 a Christmas to remember and to help the people of the area who are less fortunate.

Georges Court and St. Vincent de Paul were delighted that Cartamundi have come on so readily as sponsors of this year’s Giving Tree and are looking forward to another successful Christmas Season.

The production and sales of cards has been Cartamundi’s core business since 1765, and in the past decade they have become the world’s leading card company. The year 2014-2015 was ground breaking for them. This was achieved by sharing the magic of playing cards, card games and collectible cards with the entire world. In times when people need a break from the rat race, Cartamundi creates moments of togetherness. Last year Cartamundi produced a total of 14.751.000.000 cards, meaning two cards per person on our planet (!) A dazzling number.

In September of last year Cartmundi completed the largest acquisition in the history of the company by taking over two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities from Hasbro. These facilities are references in the industry when it comes to manufacturing excellent board games. They are the original manufacturers of legendary board games such as Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit and Risk. They are proud to have the talented workforce of Waterford in the family now as the world’s leading games manufacturer. Present in 19 countries, having factories and offices from Brazil and USA throughout Europe all the way down to India and Japan… they have come a long way in a short period of time.

Georges Court Shopping Centre is home to a range of local, national and international stores, cafes and restaurants for your shopping and leisure enjoyment in the heart of Waterford City since 1981.
