Being a good neighbor for people, society and planet
Cartamundi aims to preserve the planet and its company in excellent condition for generations to come. To help them do so, the Good Neighbor Report focuses on its employees, communities and the environment.
“Our people are our most valuable assets,” says Jean-Louis de Cartier de Marchienne, Chairman of Cartamundi. “The pandemic has made us even more aware of our role of keeping our people safe and happy. And we will continue to use creative solutions to make everyone feel included.”
The communities in which Cartamundi operates are a second focal point of the report. One of Cartamundi’s most recent accomplishments on that front is the Cartamundi Global Fund – launched in 2020. The Cartamundi Global Fund supports local projects that contribute to better health, sociability and the education of children and young people between the ages of one and 18. “We want to make a difference to people and society,” explains Stefaan Merckx. “By founding the Cartamundi Global Fund, we’re one step closer to fulfilling that ambition.”
Finally, the Good Neighbor Report discusses Cartamundi’s goals for the environment, ranging from clean neighborhood programs to the engineering of paper toys. “When we act sustainably, we strengthen our connection to nature and the communities in which we live. As a company, we need to earn our ‘social license to operate’. We want our local communities and other stakeholders to accept us as their neighbor. Because together we are One Group, One Team,” says Stefaan Merckx.
Global strategy, local programs
With headquarters in Belgium and branches in Brazil, Japan, India and the USA, among other countries, Cartamundi is a global organization. Its offices and facilities worldwide work together to achieve a common goal: to generate positive change in the communities in which they live and work. Their motto? One Group, One Team.
“Our strategy allows all companies within the Cartamundi Group to determine how they will implement our strategies,” says An Christiaen, Global Corporate Social Responsibility Manager. “Our local employees know their own neighborhood best. They will always make sure that our sustainability actions are in line with the local context.”
Good neighbors are in it for the long run
Combining authentic leading stories with colorful design, the Good Neighbor Report is evidence that Cartamundi is making good progress on a social and ecological level. But even so, Cartamundi realizes that there’s still a long way to go.
“Global initiatives to meet the Sustainable Development Goals are not yet advancing at the speed or scale required. We need our companies to make real progress so we can achieve these goals by 2030,” says Stefaan Merckx. “Cartamundi recognizes its crucial role of encouraging people to take action. Of course, we can’t do it alone. To be good neighbors, we need good neighbors. And we’re happy to see that things are moving in the right direction.”
